One of the things we enjoy most about being on holiday is eating out and there are plenty of places to choose from in and around Camber Sands and Rye, so many we cannot include them all. Here are just a few of the places we recommend which have received consistently good feedback from our guests.

The Gallivant just a few minutes stroll away via a short cut is top of the bunch. This is a great place to celebrate a special occasion or enjoy a relaxed lunch. The menu showcases some of the best local ingredients from sustainable sources including freshly caught fish, seafood and salt marsh lamb. It also offers a large selection of award wining English wines and beers. The restaurant has excellent prix fixe weekday lunch menu and some excellent value mid-week menus and what’s more, The Gallivant offers our guests a 10% discount on all food and drink. Welcomes dogs!

The Owl is our favourite place to stop for a pint of local beer on our way back from the beach with our dog. This welcoming  pub serves delicious home-cooked food in a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Welcomes dogs!

Many of our guests have also recommended the Rye Bay Cafe where they have enjoyed a great breakfast. They also serve a very good fish and chips, pies and other bistro staples. The Rye Bay Cafe is also dog friendly.

Khanz, our local curry restaurant, is also fantastic and very convenient as they deliver to the door. We have used them often and never been disappointed.

Rye, just three miles away, offers a variety and quality to suit all tastes and occasions - restaurants, pubs, cafés, tearooms and wine bars. Here, and in no particular order, are our favourites:

Webbes Fish Café is very popular serving some of the best seafood in town;

The Landgate Bistro serves delicious meals using locally sourced seasonal ingredients;

Tuscan Rye serves authentic Tuscan regional dishes prepared by Florentine chef Franco - absolutely delicious! The rose veal chop (Nodino di Vitella) is out of this world. Well behaved under-table dogs are welcome here too;

The Standard Inn, also dog friendly, is one of the most popular pubs in Rye, good beer and good food (I nearly always have the pie of the day);

The Globe Inn Marsh, just outside the citadel, is a traditional but modern country inn with brilliant food in friendly surroundings. They also welcome dogs.

Other well known venues that will not disappoint are:

The George - great beers and burgers, again dog friendly;

The Ship Inn - dog friendly and fab food, fantastic breakfasts;

The Ypres Castle Inn - known locally as “The Wipers” great, good value food with sunny beer garden for lazy summer lunches. They also welcome dogs.

Our favourite tea shops in Rye, but also serving light lunches include Hayden’s, Fletcher’s House, The Apothecary and, of course, Knoops for the most delicious hot chocolate you’ve ever had!

It is a very modest cab fare back from Rye. We advise pre-booking and have a number of local cab operators details available for guests.

The fish and chips at The Pilot Inn at Dungeness is praised time and time again by guests as some of the best fish and chips they have ever eaten!
